On March 21st, 2010, GACKT held a men’s only live – otherwise known as the Otoko Matsuri (Men’s Festival) – as a way to increase the amount of good men in the world and to celebrate the samurai spirit. Under the band name “YELLOW FRIED CHICKENs,” the live completely sold out and generated a summer tour. Changing the band name to “YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz“, GACKT and Job toured across Japan and also ventured to Europe in-between, thus making it GACKT’s first overseas tour. The lives in both countries were incredibly successful, and GACKT promised to venture overseas again soon.

Sometime between the end of the YFCz tour and the beginning of 2011 in the midst of his solo activities, GACKT began thinking about producing a band with twin vocals and triple guitars. GACKT began looking for members that would suit the image he had in mind, but when he couldn’t find anyone he started to think that it would be best to just do it himself. Unfortunately on March 3rd, 2011 an earthquake with a magnitude of 9.0 occurred off the coast of Japan, resulting in a tsunami that left the entire Tohoku region devastated. GACKT wasted no time and with the help of his friends and colleagues around the world, established a charity called SHOW YOUR HEART, which aimed to help those affected in the Tohoku region and continues to support them today.

With a new goal in mind, GACKT decided to transform his YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz project and called upon new and old members to turn the image of a seven-member band into reality. The ‘new’ image of YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz aims to have serious fun by producing cool yet touching music that will move everyone, and also aims to support those affected by the earthquake/tsunami and embody the spirit of SHOW YOUR HEART for years to come.

Since the band’s new line-up and introduction with a hysterical “Press Conference” on Nico Nico Douga, YFCz conquered both Europe and Japan on a tour that lasted from July 20th to November 6th. Some of the proceeds that were earned on the tour were donated to the Miyagi Prefectural Branch of SYH (a total of ¥3,242,521, or €31,094/$42,099). The band also has plans to take on North & South America as well as the rest of Asia (though news of the tour is currently unconfirmed).
YFCz have released two successful singles as well as their first official album, and two live DVDs of the final lives for both Europe and Japan.
